The first stage of engine modification to increase engine pickup, power and response includes

1) drop in air filter : open pod air filter like simota or k&n
* improves engine brething, increase power and engine response.

5) custom exhaust work

6) grounding body polish : swap basis with T/Body learning
*Better throttle response, increases engine response.*Re-adjust idle speed to factory setting

2012 CADILLAC ELR + 2011 HAMANN BMW X6 TYCOON EVO M

Unveiled at the 2009 Detroit Auto Show , the Cadillac Converj Concept will enter the production and is renamed to 2012 Cadillac ELR . The Cadillac ELR will feature an electric propulsion system made up of a T-shaped lithium ion battery, an electric drive unit, and a four-cylinder engine-generator.

It uses electricity as its primary source to drive the car without using gasoline or producing tailpipe emissions. When the battery’s energy is low, the ELR seamlessly switches to extended-range mode to enable driving for hundreds of additional miles.

Cadillac selected the name ELR to indicate the car’s electric propulsion technology, in keeping with the brand’s 3-letter international model naming convention. Cadillac also recently announced it will add two new vehicles to its product lineup in 2012, the XTS large luxury sedan and an all-new luxury compact sedan codenamed ATS.

2011 HAMANN BMW X6 TYCOON EVO M

The 2011 Hamann BMW X6 Tycoon Evo M is the most recent modification to X6. The body size of the newer version has been enlarged. The skirts were also included as well as LED lights. The interiors were upgrades and new accessories have been installed such as better exhaust systems, bumper designs and top of the line engine performance. This automobile has also been remodelled to be more aerodynamic which means several adjustments have been made to its core.

The body of this fine vehicle, you will notice the alloy rims. This modification not only provides the model with aesthetic points but contributes to the performance as well. Other kit modifications done are changes to the forward and back axle springs. Basically, all the new additions and re-modelling done to this latest version of the BMW X6 makes it a high performance automobile with the aesthetics to back it all up.

The engine of the Hamann BMW X6 Tycoon Evo M also has a lot more force in its engine in comparison to the preceding models. Its engine has the ability to triple its speed in 4.2 seconds. In fact, this particular model is considered as one of the fastest cars to date. Some of the modifications they to make in order to create this engine are the following: addition of a ECU course, a metal tucker system and most importantly replacing the conventional engine to a turbocharged one.

LOTUS ENGINEERING TO CONDUCT ENGINE TEST PROGRAMME FOR BTCC

The British Touring Car Championship has appointed Lotus Engineering to conduct an engine flow-test programme to establish baseline boost pressures for next season.Many teams switched to the two-litre NGTC turbo engines this season and even more are expected to run them in 2012.

Lotus is now conducting independent tests using its extensive resources and expertise. They will report to the BTCC’s Engine Technical Review Panel, which includes representatives from engine builders in the series.Read the full news from Crash.net below.

BTCC ANNOUNCES ENGINE TEST PROGRAMME

British Touring Car Championship bosses have announced that and engine flow-test programme is to be carried out to establish baseline boost pressures for the 2012 season.

Lotus Engineering has been appointed to conduct the programme, with the company reporting to the BTCC’s Engine Technical Review Panel – which includes a representative from each engine builder currently involved in the series.

The aim of the programme is to try and remove any large disparities in terms of engine performance at a time when the majority – if not all – of the field is set to switch to turbo-powered machinery for next season.

“The purpose of this programme is not to make every race engine perform in exactly the same way – it’s only right that the best engineering, the best design, the best teams and, of course, the best drivers still see their efforts related to their on-track performances,” series boss Alan Gow said. “No, the test programme is simply to reduce any wide performance variances resulting from significant differences in the fundamental port/valve designs of the original production engines. It will identify and quantify those that produce superior airflow through the cylinder head and those that don’t, in order that their baseline turbo boost pressure is set accordingly.

“Thereafter, during the course of the season, a strict mathematic calculation – based on a rolling average of each model’s qualifying and lap times over a set number of events – will determine if any further changes should be made to their respective boost levels.

“This will have the virtue of being an entirely clear, definitive procedure which utilises a set calculation and methodology to adjust any significant performance imbalances, based on the qualifying/race lap times achieved by each model. Over the next few weeks we will, of course, be defining the parameters more precisely, once we have validated all the data.

“The important thing is that our teams have unanimously agreed to both the process of the flow-testing and to the introduction of the boost-adjustment calculation method during the season, as they all very much recognise the huge positive benefits it will have for everyone.”

The series will also introduce a new scoring system for the 2012 season, with the top 15 drivers in each race scoring points as opposed to the top ten as has been the car in recent years.

HOW DUAL CLUTCH TRANSMISSION WORKS?

Most people know that cars come with two basic transmission types, manuals, which require that the driver change gears by depressing a clutch pedal and using a stick shift, and automatics, which do all of the shifting work for drivers using clutches, a torque converter and sets of planetary gears. But there’s also something in between that offers the best of both worlds, the dual-clutch transmission, also called the semi-automatic transmission, the “clutchless” manual transmission and the automated manual transmission.

Opinions are obviously divided, some people prefer to use manual transmissions for various reasons, instant torque exactly when needed by shifting in a lower gear or even for keeping the classic driving feeling while others opt for automatic gearbox the lack of a clutch pedal which obviously means increased comfort particularly in urban cycle. But apart from these two transmissions, there’s a separate option that may actually settle this comparison the so called dual-clutch transmission (DCT)

Basically, this type of transmissions is said to incorporate the best from the other two without altering engine performance in any way. Moreover, it is often described as the best solution to improve acceleration 0-100 km/h figures while eliminating more or less the jolts produced by manual gear shifting, at least for beginners.

DUAL CLUTCH TRANSMISSION IN BMW M3

A dual-clutch transmission offers the function of two manual gearboxes in one. To understand what this means, it’s helpful to review how a conventional manual gearbox works. When a driver wants to change from one gear to another in a standard stick-shift car, he first presses down the clutch pedal. This operates a single clutch, which disconnects the engine from the gearbox and interrupts power flow to the transmission. Then the driver uses the stick shift to select a new gear, a process that involves moving a toothed collar from one gear wheel to another gear wheel of a different size. Devices called synchronizers match the gears before they are engaged to prevent grinding. Once the new gear is engaged, the driver releases the clutch pedal, which re-connects the engine to the gearbox and transmits power to the wheels.

So, in a conventional manual transmission, there is not a continuous flow of power from the engine to the wheels. Instead, power delivery changes from on to off to on during gearshift, causing a phenomenon known as “shift shock” or “torque interrupt.” For an unskilled driver, this can result in passengers being thrown forward and back again as gears are changed. A dual-clutch gearbox, by contrast, uses two clutches, but has no clutch pedal. Sophisticated electronics and hydraulics control the clutches, just as they do in a standard automatic transmission. In a DCT, however, the clutches operate independently. One clutch controls the odd gears (first, third, fifth and reverse), while the other controls the even gears (second, fourth and sixth).
