ZOE is Renault’s solution to Zero Emission mobility for all. In addition to being a first class choice for everyday use and readily affordable Renault ZOE is the first pure-electric car to be designed from the ground up as such. ZOE is packed with the latest technology and boasts no fewer than six world premieres geared to enhancing user-friendliness, range and connectivity.

Renault ZOE’s final design is being world-premiered at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show. Designed as a pure-electric car from the ground up, ZOE is a compact hatchback with sleek, fluid lines. Its agile, dynamic looks express driving enjoyment, while its signature headlights feature LEDs that permanently light up recesses situated either side of the front air intake. Like Twingo and Twizy, ZOE features the Renault brand’s new design identity.

In terms of autonomy, Renault has developed the ‘Range OptimiZEr’, that combines three major innovations new-generation regenerative braking, a heat pump and MICHELIN EnergyTM E-V tyres. Due to this, the range of ZOE is the highest of the electric vehicles in mass production. In the NEDC cycle, ZOE is homologated with a range of 210km. In real conditions, for example, in suburban use, the owner will generally achieve around 100km in cold weather and 150km in temperate conditions.

Renault ZOE is the first Renault vehicle to be presented with Renault R-Link, Renault’s brand-new integrated, connected multimedia system. To enable drivers to control its functions without taking their eyes off the road, R-Link features a large seven-inch display, steering wheel-mounted controls and speech recognition. R-Link also delivers integrated connectivity with motoring services and applications available from the R-Link Store. When released, R-Link Store will offer more than 50 applications adapted for life on the move thanks to an active partnership with application developers. These apps will be downloadable directly inside the car or via owners’ My Renault account.

Like all electric vehicles, Renault ZOE emits no CO2, NOx, CO or fine particles. It also signals the disappearance of unpleasant smells and ‘engine’ noise during road use. Well to wheel CO2 emissions depend on the energy-generation mix of each country. Emissions total 62 g / km of CO2 in Europe, versus 89 g / km for the new Toyota Prius. They are even lower in France at just 12 g / km of CO2.

From 2013, ZOE’s local content rate will be 55 per cent following the introduction of the Renault electric motor which will be produced at the company’s Cleon plant. This high rate helps to reduce the carbon footprint of logistics activities.

WORLD’S 1ST 9 SPEED AUTO TRANSMISSION GEARBOX BY ZF

DUSSELDORF: A nine-speed automatic gearbox is coming and it can be adapted for use in hybrids and all-wheel drive cars as well as in stop-start applications.

ZF Friedrichshafen AG presented the world’s first nine-speeder at the International VDI Conference “Transmissions in Vehicles 2011″ earlier this week at the German town of Friedrichshafen, 587km south-east of here.

With its two model ranges, the ZF transmission covers a torque range between 280Nm and 480Nm. 
Thanks to its construction kit principle, the basic 9HP transmission can be supplemented in line with special requirements.

The gearbox is more fuel efficient than a six-speed automatic transmission, offering savings of up to 16% in front-transverse installations.

The new transmission owes this fuel efficiency to its high total spread of 9.84.

Very small gear steps can also be realised, resulting in better driving comfort and ensuring the engine always runs in the consumption-optimal speed range.

In the ninth speed, there are only 1,900rpm at 120kph instead of 2,600rpm in case of transmissions featuring six speeds.

Under high pressure – ZF is working on the development of new fuel-efficient transmission generations. The latest innovation: an entirely new automatic passenger car transmission, developed with 9 gears for vehicles with a transverse engine.

Already at the IAA 2009 (International Motor Show) in Frankfurt, Germany, ZF presented a concept study for front-transverse transmissions which has entered serial development now. Approximately 80 percent of all passenger cars worldwide feature a transverse engine installation. ZF is developing a state-of-the-art automatic transmission for this type of engine installation, which will significantly improve fuel economy. All around the world, new customer segments will be conquered with this transmission. Transmission production has been scheduled for Greenville, SC, USA.

Fuel economy and increased performance
With its 9-speed automatic transmission for vehicles with transverse installed engines, ZF will once again establish a benchmark in terms of fuel consumption. Compared to today’s standard 6-speed automatic transmissions for front-transverse design, ZF’s new 9-speed automatic transmission clearly improves both driving performance and fuel economy. The modern shock absorber systems in the torque converter, which make a rapid lock-up of the converter clutch possible, also mean better fuel economy and lower CO?emissions.

Just like the 8-speed automatic transmission for longitudinal installation, the new 9-speed front-transverse transmission ensures that the extremely short response and shifting times are clearly below the threshold of perception. This means that double shifts and direct multiple gearshifts are also made possible. Thus, the new transmission system is equipped with the same ‘sporty genes’ as already its 8-speed automatic transmission predecessors; in conjunction with the excellent shift comfort characteristics, they certainly entail ultimate customer satisfaction.

100% CUT ON IMPORT AND EXCISE DUTY FOR HYBRID CARS

KUALA LUMPUR: In light of the Budget 2011 proposal to allow full import and excise duty exemption to franchise holders of hybrid cars until Dec 31, 2011, expect prices of such eco-friendly vehicles to get much cheaper.

One of the franchise holders, Honda Malaysia Sdn Bhd, is looking at the latest development to conduct an internal review before announcing the revised price structure for its Civic Hybrid.

“As the pioneer in introducing the hybrid technology to Malaysian market, we are pleased by the Government’s decision to extend import duty and excise duty exemption for hybrid vehicles until Dec 31, 2011 with excise duty to be given full exemption.
“The move will make hybrid vehicles more accessible for the consumers and we are looking into extending our hybrid vehicle line-up,” Honda Malaysia president and chief operating officer Rohime Shafie said in a statement.

The special move to promote hybrid cars in Malaysia was introduced in Budget 2009 where the Government had proposed a 100% exemption of import duty and a 50% exemption of excise duty on new completely built-up units of hybrid cars below 2,000cc.

Now in Budget 2011, the 50% exemption of excise duty has been raised to 100%.

This incentive is also extended to electric cars as well as hybrid and electric motorcycles.

At the moment, two franchise holders are offering hybrid cars below 2,000cc in their product line-up – Honda Malaysia with its 1.4-litre Civic Hybrid priced at RM129,980 and UMW Toyota Motor’s 1.8-litre Prius at RM175,000.

UMW Toyota Motor president Kuah Kock Heng said the full duty exemption would further reduce the price of hybrid vehicles and made them more affordable for Malaysian to enjoy the Hybrid Synergy Drive Technology.

“The Government is moving towards the right direction by promoting environment friendly vehicles.

“I believe more people could experience our most popular hybrid vehicle, the Toyota Prius, while at the same time contribute to lower the CO2 emission,” he said.

Kuah said it would be exciting to see more hybrid vehicles entering the Malaysian market as more people were now aware about the effectiveness of hybrid technology as a proven alternative to lowering fuel consumption.
