Features such as the Paddle shifters allow the driver to shift the automatic box into manual, without removing the hands from steering. CAR BLIND SPOT AREA – BE AWARE

Are you aware of the blind spot area every time you want to take a turn or changing lanes? This is a very dangerous zone. For cars not fitted with blind spot zone side mirrors, you need to have extra precaution when changing lanes.

I wonder why car manufacturer, most of them very stingy in fitting all the safety features? While those gadget cost are not too much.

For example, the blind spot side mirror. If u buy them on accessories shop, it costs around below rm50 only.

Or a sensor for blind spot. I was thinking about a reverse sensor fitted on the side of car body which can detect any object at the blind spot area when you turn on the signal. It costs below RM100!

Hmm… I just dont understand..

CAR REVERSE SENSORS

Backup collisions happen when a driver reverses the car into an object, person, or other car. Although most cars come equipped with rear view mirrors which are adequate for detecting vehicles behind a car, they are inadequate on many vehicles for detecting small children or objects close to the ground, which fall in the car’s blind spot. Large trucks have much larger blind spots that can hide entire vehicles and large adults.

Normally backup collisions

1.occur in residential driveways and parking lots

2.involve sport utility vehicles (SUVs) or small trucks

3.occur when a parent, relative or someone known to the family is driving

4.particularly affect children less than five years old

Reverse sensors are a technology that allows the driver of an automobile, truck, or commercial vehicle to be alerted to nearby objects in their path. Reverse sensors are also known as backup sensors, parking sonar or just sonar depending on the automaker. While there are variations in the design and feaures of these systems, the basic design puts sensors in the vehicle’s bumper or on brackets. These sensors send ultrasonic waves at 40,000 times per second that detect obstacles behind the vehicle. A controller installed inside the vehicle then receives the signal from the sensors and transmits it to a speaker that emits a tone, or to a combination speaker and display unit.

 

This system also automatically activated when you engage reverse gear. Small sensors are located at the rear of the vehicle, they send and receive ultrasonic radio waves, which bounce off obstacles and alert you to their presence. There is an internal buzzer that gradually increases in frequency as you approach the object and shows you the distance in the LCD display.

2012 MERCEDES BENZ CLS550

Awesome list of luxury amenities like the massaging driver seat, silky smooth and powerful twin-turbo V8 and advanced safety features that are perfect for long trips. These goes for 2012 Mercedes Benz CLS550.

The underlying mechanics are from the E-class sedan and the CLS550 sports the new MB 4.7-liter, direct-injection twin-turbo V8. It’s fantastic… but more on that later. The higher-end CLS63 features a 5.5L biturbo V8 that produces 518 horsepower but will set you back almost 20 Gs more.

The new Blue Efficiency 4.7-liter twin-turbo V8 produces 402 horsepower @5,000-5,750 RPM and 443 lb.-ft. of torque @1,800-4,750 RPM, and Mercedes-Benz claims 0-60 in 5.1 seconds. The CLS550 was quick off the line and had a smooth power delivery all the way up through 7 gears in freeway driving. Adaptive logic monitors adjust the shift points to match your driving style. Those who prefer a more direct approach can manually select higher shift points or use the paddle shifters for even more control.

For such a large and heavy car (4,200 pounds), it feels light on its feet in local driving and very confident at highway speeds. The ride is superb thanks to the air suspension and active damping, which adjusts each wheel’s suspension settings continuously in response to ride height and road conditions.

In addition to the comfortable ride, the combination of safety features and luxury appointments in the CLS550 seemed destined for long road trips. The tester featured the Driver Assistance package which includes a radar-equipped cruise control that automatically detects cars in front of you and slows down, active blind spot assist and lane departure warning.
