A new compact car by Kia, Kia Picanto 2012 images and specification taken during international autoshow by KDI. It has 1.0 litre and 1.2 litre engine with new design concept for exterior and additional fun features for a small and affordable car. Below are the specification of Kia Picanto. KIA PICANTO 1.2 Litre 2012

Kia offers the Picanto with the 1.2-litre 4 cylinder KAPPA engine that delivers a useful 87PS i.e. 86bhp in old money and 121 Nm of torque.

Picanto in “Alice blue”   A conventional 4 speed automatic transmission gets the power to the front wheels. The claimed fuel economy figure of 18.7 kms to the litre or 5.4 ltrs/100km, seems achievable. For drivers needing a little more involvement, a 5 speed manual transmission is available on the cheapest trim level, the LX.   For a compact, the insides of the Picanto are welcoming in terms of space, seating comfort and general ergonomics. A sporty 2 spoke steering wheel and faux aluminium accents keep things interesting in the otherwise conventional interiors. Expect it to accommodate 4 average sized adults in relative comfort, but a fifth person would be a squeeze. The 60:40 folding seats complement the minimal boot capacity. The plastics are soft to touch and tightly put together but only a road test would reveal the squeaks and rattles and general fit and finish concerns.

Picanto’s aggressive front end   The fully loaded EX model is a festival of features. It comes with a CD player with mp3 capability, USB port, aux input, fog lamps, alloy wheels, keyless entry system,  leather wrapped steering wheel and shift lever, Bluetooth, day time running lights, escort and welcome lamp, electric folding mirrors, airbag, ABS and sunroof. Also Kia promises a host of complex safety features not found on small cars such as Hill Start Assist Control (HAC),  Vehicle Stability Management (VSM) etc.   Prices for the LX start at Dhs. 36500, while the mid range EX model and full options EX, comes in at Dhs. 38,500 and Dhs. 43,000 respectively.

Nissan Micra???   Kia is likely to find buyers amongst young women mostly college going, who will appreciate the compact dimensions for city trotting, creature comforts and a dash of style. Prospective Chevrolet Spark and Daihatsu Sirion buyers should entertain their thoughts, with this exciting new car before making a purchase.   We look forward to putting this little city slicker through some mountain road and some highway and will get our impressions to you soon.

At last, the new BMW X1 arrives in Malaysia with the price of X1 between RM263,800 to RM299,800. This cheapest BMW X series will surely increase BMW Malaysia sales this year due to the sports and stylish looking X1 is offered with a quite affordable price for BMW car fans. KUALA LUMPUR, April 7 (Bernama) — BMW Malaysia Sdn Bhd expects sales of its X-series model this year to increase by 20 per compared with 15 per cent last year.

 Its managing director, Geoffrey Briscoe, said an encouraging sales would continue to be driven by its existing and the new BMW X1 sports activity vehicle (SAV), which set the benchmark in motor vehicle innovation.

 ”The new model is an example of low-emission motoring in Malaysia as it is the first of its kind with carbon dioxide emissions below 170 grams per kilometre,” he said at media launch of BMW X1 here Wednesday.

 Also present was Minister of Transport Datuk Seri Dr Ong Tee Keat.

 BMW Malaysia sold 3,564 units of BMW models last year, excluding the Mini Cooper and motorcycles.

 Currently, the BMW X1 is available in the form of the diesel-powered BMW X1 xDrive20d with the price tag of RM299,800, while the petrol-driven BMW X1 sDrive 18i, which would be available by June 2010, is priced RM263,800.

 Briscoe said the SAV was designed to meet the needs of the increasingly dynamic modern lifestyle and youthful customers who were looking for contemporary sport-centric design with superior engine performance and fuel efficiency.

 ”The BMW X1 incorporates driving dynamics and safety that achieved the highest score of five stars, the maximum score possible on the most important crash test procedure in Europe — The Euro NCAP crash test,” he said.

 Meanwhile, Ong said the government hoped more companies, institutions and individuals would take proactive active to further encourage the growth and introduction of sustainable green technologies and alternatives in Malaysia.

 He said these efforts would not only contribute to the preservation of the country’s resources and environment but encourage further awareness of sustainable technologies among citizens.

 ”The government has committed itself to reduce the amount of carbon emissions in the country to 40 per cent by 2020,” he said.

2010 MERCEDES BENZ E-CLASS COUPE + 2010 HYUNDAI GENESIS COUPE

MERCEDES BENZ E-CLASS COUPE

Mercedes Benz is marching onward in its future styling direction with the introduction of the 2010 E-class Coupe. The CLK-coupe name disappears and the replacement will be called the E-class coupe.

Inside, the E-class coupe is similar to the sedan with the exception of the shifter which resides on the console instead of on the column. There is seating for only four occupants with what appears to be a fairly roomy back seat. The controller for the standard Command multimedia interface is perched directly behind the shifter. A panoramic sunroof is standard as well, along with leather sport seats and dual-zone climate control.

Comes with a sharper more angular nose with four pointy diamond-like, headlamps and LED running lights that peek out from the lower fascia. Unlike the sedan, however, the coupes wear the three prong star in the grille only. Two models will be offered, the E350 with a 268-hp 3.5-liter V-6 or the E550 with a 382-hp 5.5-liter V-8.

HYUNDAI GENESIS COUPE

World automotive market has lacked an affordable, accessible, fast, responsive, fun, communicative, good-looking rear-wheel-drive sports coupe. The Hyundai Genesis Coupe is that car.

There’s two engines:

1) 3.8-liter V6 with 306 HP, will run 0-to-60 MPH in 5.5 seconds and top out at 149 MPH and 266 Lb-Ft of torque

2) 2.0 turbo with 210 HP and 223 Lb-Ft, takes 6.8 seconds to reach 60 and tops out at 137 MPH

Suspension is MacPherson front, five-link rear. Roll bars are 24mm front, 19mm rear. At 2.7 turns lock-to-lock the rack-and-pinion is quick and accurate.

The best thing about the Genesis Coupe is the chassis. Equipped with the Track pack — larger Brembo brakes, thicker anti-roll bars, 19″ wheels, summer tires, stiffer suspension, a limited-slip differential on the 2.0T (standard on the 3.8) — it’s a near-ideal budget trackday car that you could also drive everyday on the road.

At one time in the summer of 2008, gas prices average around RM 14.94/gallon in the U.S. It is currently lower now due to the recession, but economist predict that it will be over RM 13.28/gallon when the economy start picking up again. The best ways to save money is not drive at all and just stay home, sit in front of your computer all day long! Most of us can’t do that because we must drive to work and we live in a society where driving is a necessity. How many miles are you getting from a gallon of gas? There will be no expensive cars in this post and none of the cars here will reach 0-100 in 5 secs, but these cars will save you money on gas every year.

TOYOTA PRIUS

1. Toyota Prius: Base Price: $21,100 or RM 70,100

1.5-liter, 16-Valve VVT-i 4-Cylinder engine with 110 hp, 0-100 in 9.8 secs.
