Ungku Omar Polytechnic and Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) emerged as winners in the recent Perodua Eco-Challenge held to determine how far a Perodua Myvi could travel on one litre of fuel.
Ungku Omar Polytechnic won in the manual transmission category for the longest distance travelled while USM became champion for automatic transmission and for best design and engineering presentation, a company official said Friday.
Students from 12 institutions of higher learning took part in the fuel economy competition held at the Speedway PLUS Circuit in Subang Jaya near here.
The others were Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) and Universiti Industri Selangor (Unisel), Universiti Tenaga Nasional (Uniten), Universiti Islam Antarabangsa (UIA), Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP), Universiti Malaya (UM) and Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM).
At the prize giving ceremony, Perodua Managing Director Datuk Syed Abdull (rpt: Abdull) Hafiz Syed Abu Bakar said Perodua believed that the future of the automotive industry hinged on the development of eco-friendly technologies.
