HONDA STOPS PRODUCTION OF FOUR-DOOR CIVIC TYPE R.
KUALA LUMPUR, April 19 — Honda Malaysia Sdn Bhd says it will end sales of the four-door Civic Type R, following an announcement from Honda Motor Co. Ltd Japan that it will discontinue production of the car.
Currently, Malaysia is the only country outside Japan to sell the four-door Civic Type R.
“After having evaluated the model based on environmental performance, which is the new method of calculating emissions in JC08 mode, as well as current market demands, we believe that the time has come for us to discontinue production of the 4-door Civic Type R,” said the Managing Director and Chief Executive officer of Honda Malaysia, Toru Takahashi in a statement here today.
To date, Honda Malaysia has sold 234 units of four-door Civic Type R since August 2007.
For now, customers in Malaysia can still place orders for the Civic Type R at any authorised Honda dealer, the statement said.
I think the underlying reason for discontinuing the product is a sluggish market for high performance fuel guzzling cars. Thats why FD2R was discontinued, however for enthusiast..the is another model, the European Civic Type R- a 3 door hatchback. That will depend on whether Honda Malaysia wants to bring it in. The European Civic Type R was currently produce in Honda’s Swindon plant in the UK.
The 234 local FD2R owners might want to hang on to their cars, as they will very soon be known as..from a sport car to a collector’s car. For me its a real crying shame for Honda to have stop producing such a beautiful beast.
