Message : I need a review on Hyundai Avante in Malaysia or also known as Hyundai Elantra X20. For the price range of around RM90k, is it worth for me to buy the New Hyundai Avante compare to other choices ( Avante vs vios vs city vs Civic) I hope somebody can help me making decision coz actually i like the design of the new avante aka elantra. Just need some opinion.

KDI: Buying a car actually depends on what you really wants and needs. If you think that outside look is more important, it is undeniable that the Avante with Incus Bodykit is a very nice and sporty car compare to other competitor. In my personal opinion, it is worth with the price you pay around RM90k to get the mid size sedan 2.0 litre engine and nice overall design. ya..memang hyundai no. 4 kt dunia. saya skrg pakai kereta m’sia (iswara & waja), jepun (avanza) dan korea (sonata). semua beli habis bayar dan tak jual balik coz value depreciation. Pada pandangan saya, kereta korea takde masalah. Kualiti sangat baik, servis lebih murah berbanding kereta jepun(di pusat servis). Siapa yg nak beli avante, saya syorkan beli pasal kualiti hyundai jauh lebih baik dari yg selalu org kata. dulu saya dok pikir nak beli antara camry atau sonata..kalau dengar cakap org memang tak beli kereta korea. tapi coz harga murah 30k dari camry..saya beli sonata..no regret, hyundai memang bagus.

The Avante is a class above Vios & City. You should compare with Civic and Altis. The Avante is a total transformed platform compared with the older version. This is a value for money for anyone looking for a value buy. I would buy this car without hesitation.
My reason for this:
1) Five Year Warranty or 300k km mileage.
2) Full spec with leather seats, alarm system.
3) 5 star NHTSA – NCAP Crash Test Rating
4) Rated 3rd for fuel efficiency 2008 Asian Auto Bosch
5) JD Powers Best Sedan Class.
Price now cheapest in it’s class at RM83k on the road.

My wife and I both test drove the Forte, the City and the Avante and I can honestly say that the Avante outclassed the others by miles. The Forte has a great design, beautiful and sleek but the interior looks and feels so cheap and plastic, matching it’s RM75k price tag no doubt. I’m sure in a few years time, after the short 2 year warranty has ended, this car will fall apart worse than a Proton! With the City, the spec was ridiculously low (it doesn’t even have a CD player) and the cost is RM1k more than the Avante. The engine sounds far too raw and pushing it uphill on a slight gradient, the car struggled to perform. However, the Avante felt so luxurious with it’s leather interior and has masses of extra storage spaces, such as for your sunglasses. The power was there when needed but the only downside is that it only comes in a 2.0 litre model, which may later affect the driving costs once the government (stupidly) announces petrol subsidies in May. Obviously the road tax will hit the RM400 mark, which isn’t so bad as it’s once a year but the insurance is around the same.
Also, the sales people at Honda are arrogant beyond belief! So pushy and have such confidence that their cars are the ultimate. How ironic then that besides Toyota, Honda are also now recalling hundreds of thousands of cars, because of airbag problems. Hyundai sales have gone up in the US and the Avante remains the best selling car in Singapore. Honda sales kept gabbing on about the resell value is better on their cars, but quite frankly, I want a car to feel comfortable if I’m to drive it for 5-6 years, not sit in a horrid tin can thinking ‘oh well, at least I can make some extra cash when I sell it half a decade later’ !!
At RM84k and with a 5 year warranty, leather interior (and a CD player), we’ve decided to put an order in, after doing quite some research, the Avante wins hands down! Their sales people are also very nice and really go out their way for you. Honda even wanted us to make a confirmation before they give us a trade-in value on our current vehicle, wtf !!?

@Lim; Yes I agree, why bother wasting money buying Honda and Toyota cars, especially when they have so many recalls lately. Hyundai is a good bet, I bought an Accent last year and it’s never given me a single problem. Hyundai are the the underdogs but their cars are better than the competition.

Just to share my 2 cents evaluation. currently i own perdana and also vios – both are brand new.I had test drive all car affordable in my wish list for wife – civic 1.8, the new city, altis 1.8, forte 1.6, persona and alza and avante 2.0. I found avante 2.0 is a far superior car in term of good VFM for power, comfort as well the beauty. reliability is also comparable to other reputable Japanese brands – less complaints and the seat and the ride far better than my perdana. just placed RM100 d/p for avante 2.0 at Hyundai Puchong yesterday @ RMK80K OTR 09 model. You can get 2010 model for RM83.5K OTR at Hyundai Glenmarie as well. Other places offer 84K otr 2010 model. No regret.

Ya It exclude free service, but it optional or you have to pay more. This car is really a VFM, i read from a US car magazine review, avante is rated better than Altis the US. The Altis 1.8 is considered its direct competitor. But if i were to take altis i have to fork additional RM36K wif a leg cramp in the rear seat. On top of this the plus point is saved 10% downpayment fr my hard earn saving as well. Does this really value for money?

aku dah beli Avante dlm seminggu…enjin utk 2.0 with 143hp agak memuaskan…interior aku leh kasi “A+”…look & feel agak kantoi sikit “B-”…cuma yang paling x best handling mmg x cun “D”…compare to Lancer 2.0GT with 145hp mmg kompom 5 6 tiang kene tinggal huhhuhu..tapi aku yakin setakat Civic boleh tapaw punye…btw korg nak beli ke x suka hati korg huhu…duit korg…
the blue version is not hybrid but got better FC (you can search us hyundai).

guan: i’m not sure about the fuel consumption precisely…but compared to my Proton Perdana, Avante much better…with RM50 ron95 it last about 3 days…i stay in Hulu Langat, my office at Jalan Tun Razak + meeting/apmt around KL…
guan, FC avante.city drive (to work, shopping mall and teh tarik wif friends) 10.6km/liter or RM0.17/km.i hv checked more than 7 times.long distance 12km/liter or RM0.15/km.petrol @ RM1.80 per liter.better than saga blm (wifey’s car) and gen2 (previous car) both RM0.20/km.i supposed lower c.c. consume less but this comparison is the other way around.yes avante is value for money.

yup, my rpm is below 1000 when in idle. 2000 rpm when in 100km/hr. normal city drive is 1500 – 2000. Highway is 2000-3000. Didn’t go above 3000 yet, as 3000 rpm already @ 130-160km/hr …..
After rev to 3k RPM, notice that the car is now feel a little bit more bumpy, even on straight road, or even idle the car with engine on (not too much, but can feel it)…… did anyone encounter this problem?

guan, congratulation to your new ride, overall this Avante is a good choice….. i didn’t change the rim…. I can get 18 sen/km in highway…. city drive quite high, around 20sen/km :( .. not sure is causing by not Run in yet… , my research also told me that it should be around 17/18sen /km… but……… hope that i can lower my FC after runin ….
In my opinion, FC can vary due to many things. I like to focus on 1 thing only which is your engine oil. If you use semi-sync over mineral oil, you will get better FC.
Same goes to petrol…

Hello, just taken my 2010 brandnew avante this evening @ RM83.4K, fixed wif elite vkool all round. Overall interior space & comfort feels better than altis, adequate power and torque. Just have one complaint – the steering wheels grip is too big & too wide for my hand, feels rigid and upright. I am 5′ 7″ 88kg person. Wish if the steering could be change to a smaller grip w/o affecting the radio dials.. any ideas?

03 june 10 get my new avante. first full tank 520km (48.07L, RM86.53, cultex ron95) -city 70%, highway 30%. feel good everything but centre locking button something can not function.rm83888.00 with full tank, majong no and 2 ambi pur. i m penang guy, any owner stay in northern? after this few days, i felt that the steering response not very good in low speed but doesn’t mean poor handling, actually quite stable( if you compare with toyota vios, altis, camry, honda city, suzuki sx4, nissan sylphy, eventhough mitsubishi lancer (use 205/55R16).
second full tank rm82.00(cultax ron95) hit 478km. city 80%, highway 20% in Penang island and butterworth area. highway test – 150km still stable, haven’t try the top speed cuz i didn’t go out station. i m plan to fit Incus bodykit, cost rm1800 in KL, is it reasonable.

If you think of comfort driving, Korean car is vgalue for you money. From my experience Korean car feel like Conti Car now compare 80s model. But if you think of 2nd hand value Korean car is not worth. Choice is yours..

i’d like to ask a pro view ’bout this elantra. my father just gave me my uncle’s elantra 2001 xd. i’m quite anxious are this car fuel economy.? ….. i mean for a student … it’s look great, feel great and surely capture a lot of attentions. Does it true it consume 10 liter for every 100km?.. it means 1 liter for 10th km.. and every 1km equals 25 cents… that’s alot…
my final fuel is 46liter(ron95) for 480km (25% in highway and 75% in town area, this is 7 times full tank fuel test result in penang area).

the price should be under rm84000. my car is rm83888 (butterworth simedarby, penang). you have to make sure the dealer is simedarby, not authorized dealer. i heard someone get 82something.

RM83.5+k OTR for 2010 assembled Avante seems to be a good deal although it is older model than Forte and no traction control. Would it be lower if you got full NCB?. Anyone out there getting better deal from Sime Darby for 2008 or 2009 assembled model?. Sime Dardy after sales is better than NAZA’s after sales?.
83.5k ??its a good deal!!…. yup, although it is an older model if compare to Forte, but it win lot more on its comfort…and if you take a side by side comparison, you can see the interior of the avante is in fact more solid…. After sales service? It depends on which service center you are going also, generally SD have better comment if compare to Naza…
