PUCHONG: The new BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo (GT) is touted as having better fuel efficiency, more driving comfort and interior space.Launched recently at Ingress Auto Puchong, the highlights of the new 3 Series GT include its lightweight construction concept, air breathers and the active rear spoiler. With its upgraded cabin size, raised seating position and additional 7cm of rear seat passenger’s legroom, the new 3 Series GT also enjoys an overall increase in length of 20cm over the 3 Series Touring.
“This premium GT is more fuel efficient, even more luxurious and sets yet another benchmark within the extremely successful BMW 3 Series segment,” said BMW Group Malaysia chief executive officer Dr Gerhard Pils during the launch event in Puchong.The broad, powerful, slightly forward-slanting BMW kidney grille and modified front apron underline the BMW 3 Series GT’s sports like character.The headlights and air intakes are built larger than the sedan variant.
Another identifying feature of the all-new BMW 3 Series GT is the air breathers which are located parallel to the front wheels, and designed to reduce drag around the wheel arches. It comes with 18-inch light-alloy double spoke wheels, and the active rear spoiler, which is a first on a BMW, is automatically deployed at 110km/h and retracted at speeds below 70km/h. At 4.82m long, 1.50m tall and with a 2.92m wheelbase, the new BMW 3 Series GT is 20cm longer and stands 7.9cm taller than the BMW 3 Series sedan.The electrically operated tailgate comes as a standard feature.
Further touches for the driver includes the fitting of paddle shifters, a sports leather steering wheel with multifunctional buttons and sports seats with electric seat adjustment, as well as a nine-speaker audio system. At the heart of the new BMW 3 Series GT is the multi-award winning BMW TwinPower Turbo technology which teams up with an intelligent eight-speed automatic transmission to significantly reduce fuel consumption and emissions.The BMW 3 Series GT houses an in-line four cylinder engine and delivers a maximum output of 245hp with torque peaking at 350Nm.
Sprinting from 0-100km/h in a mere 6.1 seconds with an electronically limited top speed of 250km/h, and fuel efficiency rated at 6.4 litres per 100km.The new 3 Series GT also offers drivers the ability to modify the overall character of the vehicle to suit driving or personal preferences and the ECO PRO, COMFORT, SPORT and SPORT+ modes are incorporated as standard features. Also, its ECO PRO mode assists in adjusting the accelerator’s responses and engine management system, as well as reaping the rewards of an intelligent energy and climate management capabilities for even further fuel consumption reductions. The ECO PRO Route function joins forces with the new Navigation System Professional to monitor the driver’s personal driving style and the profile of the road ahead in order to propose the most fuel-saving route and vehicle setup.
It also helps drivers to maintain an efficient and economical driving style by cutting up to 20% fuel consumption with a corresponding boost to the car’s range on a tank of fuel. Although the new 3 Series GT is larger in terms of dimensions and space, it is barely any heavier than the BMW 3 Series Sedan; with the increased deployment of aluminium components in the engine and chassis construction reducing overall weight. The new 3 Series GT Sport Line is available in Alpine White, Black Sapphire, Melbourne Red, Glacier Silver, Midnight Blue, and Mineral Grey.
