Lexus Malaysia, a division of UMW Toyota Motor Sdn Bhd, is targeting to sell 105 units of the newly launched RX350 luxury sport utility vehicle (SUV).

“We are confident of reaching the target as demand is strong and even before the launch today, we had received about 15 bookings for the new vehicle,” said Lexus Malaysia president Kuah Kock Heng.

According to Kuah, sales of the RX350 will contribute almost half of the total sales target of 250 units for this year.

Kuah said that to serve customers better, the company is expanding its regional service support centres to outside the Klang Valley this year, namely to Penang and Johor.

The company has also invested about RM35 million in a showroom cum service centre in Petaling Jaya.

When asked about overall expansion plans for this year, Kuah said the company was still reviewing it and would take further action when market conditions improved.

“Due to the gloomy economic outlook, what we planned six months ago is no longer valid,” said Kuah.

Meanwhile, the new RX350 is available from March 12 onwards, with an on-the-road price RX350 of RM377,000, without insurance.
