Most of you guys should know the famous Toyota Corolla Trueno AE86 or called as Hachiroku in Japanese which is featured in the Manga/Anime called Initial D.The Trueno is a very simple car with a 1.6 liter Naturally aspirated engine driving the rear wheel.The fact that the car is rear wheel driven makes it possible for it do drift around.
Basically there is no replacement for the Trueno AE86 but now, there is the FT-86 concept and i consider this car as the Trueno replacement. Is the number 86 a coincidence or there is something behind it?
The toyota FT-86 concept is the result of the collaboration between Subaru and Toyota. The model that they had come out with is a sports coupe which will be featured in the later Tokyo Auto Show.
The sport coupe’s dimensions are fairly compact with a length of 4,16 meters and a height of 1,26 m (width and wheelbase are 1,76 and 2,57 meters, respectively) and a low center of gravity. The FT-86 was created by Toyota’s Europe Design Development and it’s objective was to fashion a car with a “functional utility” design theme.
The concept car will be a simple, fun to drive and fuel efficient car.The engine to be fitted is a 2.0 liter boxer petrol engine by subaru which develops 160 HP, although, there have been hints that it may be dialed up to about 200. It also uses a 6-speed manual transmission and ADVICS brakes.
Based on the dimension and weight of the car, we hope that the FT-86 can be as agile as the legendary AE86 and bring back the legacy of Fujiwara Takumi into live.
