HOW TURBOCHARGER WORKS-INTERCOOLER
And a normal intercooler is actually an air-to-air heat exchanger,this term is commonly used in aviation and construction. The intercooler is similar to your car radiator but the radiator is a water-to-air exchanger where the the ram air will cool down the water inside the radiator whereas,in the intercooler it is just compressed air.
Air after the compressor is hot and hot air means lower density of oxygen. The lack of oxygen will reduce your car power. Other than reducing the power output, it may also cause knocking to your engine and this can damage your engine.So a good intercooler is a worthy upgrade as it can give your car more power and your car engine can run a lot cooler and prolonging the engine life.
There is basically 3 types of general fitment of the intercooler which is side mount,front mount or top mount.The top mount intercooler is mounted right on top of your engine and cars using the top mount intercooler should have an air scoop on top of the bonnet to breath in cool air from outside.This fitment can be found on car like the SUBARU IMPREZZA ,DAIHATSU L200, TOYOTA STARLET 4E and etc.Side mount intercooler is usually mounted just behind the bumper and right at the leftmost or rightmost corner and oftenly mounted at an angle,This type of fitment can be found in car such as the MITSUBISHI LANCER GSR 4G93T and the MAZDA B8. And the best fitmen of all is the front mount intercooler where it is mounted right in the middle of your bumper mostly in front of the radiator. This position will get the intercooler the most ram air.Car that can be found using this fitment include the MITSUBISHI EVO and NISSAN SKYLINE.
So for those turbo user, don’t hesitate to upgrade your intercooler. Mount it in front to get the best effect and make your front end look fiercer. But choose the correct size of intercooler for your engine cause a bigger than necessary intercooler will gives you more boost lag and too small intercooler will not be sufficient to gives out all the heat.

Turbos and Intercoolers have been an enigma for so long. Its very recently that people have been looking into turbo for not only more power but better fuel economy (turbo diesel) too bad US automakers are so far behind. Whereas Mitsubishi has been putting turbos on their cars since 1989.

nak turbokan enjn 4g93, selain turbo,extractor gsr, wastegate, intercooler dan piping. apakah lg barang yg saya perlukan untuk melengkapkan turbo kit ini, kerana kebanyakkan barang diperolehi satu persatu.
Could someone explain how inter cooler in 2008 diesel shoegun works as mine started to give out a cloud of heavy smoke as well as a gas smell from the exhaust once in a while when push the accelerator pedal down. After letting the engine to cool for a while the smoke vanishes. Thereafter, if engine is allowed to run idle in neutral or on a road run at very low revs with a light throttle no smoke emits. Still that gas smell continues to emit.
