HONDA CITY NOW WITH TAFFETA WHITE

Honda Malaysia has announced a revised colour palette for the 3rd Generation City, with the addition of the popular Taffeta White colour coming in to join the existing Crystal Black Pearl, Polished Metal Metallic and Alabaster Silver Metallic.

Surprisingly removed from the line-up is the Deep Lapis Blue Metallic colour, which has been used as the City’s hero colour in most of Honda Malaysia’s advertising materials for the car. Withdrawn along with it is Bold Beige Metallic, and this sees customer options for colours reduced from five to four.

There are no changes in specifications and variants, so the City continues to be sold in two trim levels – Grade S at RM85,480 and Grade E at RM90,480, both on-the-road inclusive of insurance in Peninsula Malaysia.

With more than 36,000 units sold since its launch in December 2008, the City is currently Honda’s best seller in the Malaysian market. The company maintains a sales target of 1,700 units of the City per month, with the new Taffeta White colour expected to encompass some 40% of that figure.

Taffeta White was previously available only in the fully imported Honda Jazz, but after introducing it on the Accord, Honda Malaysia has gradually incorporated the colour into its other CKD models such as the Civic and the CR-V, with the City now being the latest recipient of this colour. We were briefed by Mr Takeshi Hirano, Honda Malaysia’s new Head of Sales & Marketing, that some 30% of the company’s sales in recent months are cars finished in Taffeta White.

In conjunction with the new colour launch, Honda Malaysia is organizing a month-long rock-climbing competition in Camp5, 1 Utama Shopping Centre. Themed Get on the Rock with Honda City, the competition is open to participants aged 21 and above.

Competitors are split to two categories – Open and Pro. By definition, the Open category targets anyone, even the non-climbers, in a team of two. The Pro Climber category targets climbers with climbing experience rated Grade 6c, a French Numerical climb rating system with 1 being the easiest and 9b being the most difficult.

Registration period is open from today until December 7. Participants for Open category are required to submit one climbing photo shot that best interprets one of City’s unique qualities: Style, Performance, Practicality and Best-in-class, whereas participants from the Pro Climber category will need to submit four photo shots that truly reflect all City’s qualities.

The submission will be evaluated via an online public voting system, where 25 teams from Open category and 20 competitors from Pro Climber category are short-listed. The final showdown between the short-listed competitors is scheduled to take place on December 18 in Camp5.

During the final showdown, the team from Open category that climbs the most mileage in 2 hours would win an adventure-filled climbing trip on the limestone cliff in Krabi, Thailand worth RM3,500 along with a 1-year membership in Camp5.

Winner from the Pro Climber category, on the other hand would get a chance to meet with Reini Scherer, one of the world climbing champions, in a climbing clinic in Austria worth RM13,000 in addition to the RM2,000 cash prize.
