Lotus 2-Eleven GT4 Supersport
You were driving passionately during the Sunday Track Day at the Sepang International Circuit. Pushing your car to the limit and squeezing each and every horses that was hidden in your engine. As you look at your side mirror you’ll see a bright yellow object coming at you with a ear deafening sound. Without even having the time to guess what car it is, it already had overtaken you. And yes it is. It is the Lotus 2 Eleven.
The Lotus 2 Eleven is a track car produced by a British manufacturer, Lotus which is actually owned by our national car manufacturer, Proton. The 2 eleven is built primarily for track purposes but with an extra £1,100, Lotus will make the car road legal.
The 2 Eleven GT4 Supersport is powered by a 1.8 liter intercooled supercharged 2ZZ-GE producing a mind boggling 270PS of power and 247Nm of torque. Seems not powerful enough to be a track car but with a body weighing a mere 666kg, this car can sprint from a standstill to 100kmh in just under 4 seconds.
To handle the power produced by the engine, a 6 speed sequential gearbox with a fore-aft shift lever is being used. And to make sure all the power is properly transferred to the road surface,4 piece of Yokohama AO48 semi slick tyre is installed all around the 2 eleven.
Being fast wont mean a thing if you cannot handle all the corners. The GT4 uses double wishbone suspension where the damper and the spring had been stiffened to a more race focused setting . The dampers are the race proven 2-way adjustable Ohlins units, allowing the handling to be fine tuned for optimum track setup. The rear suspension has been upgraded with the addition of race spec rear toe links.
Other than that, the car offer a sports tuned ABS, variable traction control and launch control systems. The aerodynamics is also improvised which is said being able to generate up to 80kg of downforce at 100mph.
Lotus is only planning to build 10 cars initially for delivery in March 2009. This professional race car will run £78,255, expected at a around Rm400k.
