DECISION TO SCRAP VEHICLE END-OF-LIFE WON’T AFFECT NAP – MUSTAPA
JELI, Nov 8 — The government’s decision to scrap the Vehicle End of Life Policy would not affect the National Automotive Policy (NAP) said International Trade and Industry minister Datuk Mustapa Mohamed.
He said the move was to give priority to the views of the people but the decision would not affect the government’s desire to improve the automobile industry in the country.
Mustapa who is also Member of Parliament for Jeli, said the government would continue discussions with the Road Transport Department, to find a way to phase out old cars that are not road-worthy.
The Ministry had on Oct 28, announced that old vehicles aged 15 years or older, would be required to undergo mandatory annual comprehensive inspection as a requirement for road tax renewal.
However, on Nov 6, the decision was withdrawn as the government had received many complaints from various quarters.
