The answer is highly dependant to yourself. If you have a strong income and not really related to economical crisis, well this is absolutely the very best time for you to buy a new car seriously. Because all the interest rate are going super super low coz bank want to attract customer more and the Car seller offer so much free gift and crazy car promotion. Yes! It is the right time to buy a new car!
But if you have not stable income, you may want to consider again on buying a new car. Maybe you can proceed to just buy a second hand car or continue payment (sambung bayar) which is i think not too bad and not give you a burden to pay high monthly payment of new car instead.
Second hand car is quite a good choice if you found a very good deal and good car. But the interest rate is higher which is approximately 3%-5% per year for 5 years car loan up to 9 years of loan. For a car older than 5 years may reach until 5%-7% interest rate up to 5 years only for second hand used car.
Due to high interest rate of second hand car and maybe some of us cannot pass to apply loan because of blacklisted, under 21 with no guarantor and some other reason, you may consider to buy a car for continue payment. Meaning that the car owner that cannot pay for his car will offer anyone who are willing to pay for his car until the payment period end to the bank. Before buy using sambung bayar (continue payment) system, you need to sign an agreement which stated that you have the rights on the car after you settled all the payment to the bank and you can change the ownership of the car to yours. Usually, the original owner will ask some amount of deposit and you can have the car after the agreement.

I wonder why the interest rates differ from different marques/distributors.
The vios promotion is great because of its lowest interest rate.
The other promotions are also a great offer with interest rate much lower than the government staff can get from the treasury department.

II bought a Vios on the last day of last year (2008). I bought it for work purposes since my new workplace needed me to travel extensively.
But ever since I joined them, they have cut down on travel almost 90%. So over the past 4 months or so, my car has only travelled for 4,000 Km only.
I want to sell the car since I feel I can drive my wife’s car to and fro.
Let me know if anyone is interested in this… It still has RM1.5k of free maintenance left.
Now consumer can choice which promotion is the best to deal. I thing naza promotion cash rebate & vios 1.6% interest payment is the best deal. All the car manufacturing struggle due to economic crisis.
I do not know how to write in this forum. Yes, even though there are many offers now from various brand, I just would like to bring this out:
WE’RE A SLAVE TO OUR CAR-we people never realize that most of us were bound to our car financing for 7 years. Some even up to 10 years in the case of government servant! Some opt to change to a new car in the middle of financing after three years, some buying a second car while still servicing the loan for first car. Some change it because the Jones next door is having a brand new car. Some because of peer pressure. Some because of wife pressure! Some to impress their girlfriend. Etc, etc.
I am not discouraging any potential buyer out there, but we seriously need to think and do some math before we take a commitment for a new car. What you earn today might not be permanent for the next 5 years, 7 years. I’ve live through this harrowing experience to tell you guys.
This is my formula-before you splurge on anything.
Calculate your existing lifestyle and the amount of RM you needed to maintain it each month (wth a new car of course!)
Then set aside at least 12 to18 month buffer before start spending. Why? At least with the min 12 months buffer you can weather any financial tsunami and STILL be able to maintain your existing lifestyle, and you won’t have to force yourself to eat 50cents maggie mee everyday just to maintain your car.
Totally agreed with Niemans.. we need to weigh our pocket first not only to buy car but to all other stuffs. Cars depreciate value but houses appreciate values. Unless it is economical for u to change your car, yes pls..but otherwise, just maintain it. Save your monies for rainies days..
